专辑《传奇》是雷鬼音乐教父Bob Marley和他的哭泣者乐队最精华的专辑之一，这张专辑在1984年首次发行，并成为历史上销量最好的雷鬼专辑，仅在美国就销售了将近1000万张，所以《传奇》顺理成章地成为音乐史上最畅销的专辑之一。这张专辑常年盘踞在各大专辑销量榜的前列。

《传奇》收录了Bob Marley和他的传奇者乐队从1973年到1981年在ISLAND唱片公司期间的精华作品。其中的每一首单曲都成为当今雷鬼音乐、R&B或者流行音乐的学习标准。

　　Bob Marley(鲍勃•马利)是牙买加的民族英雄。他正直的品格、对理想的执着、和对牙买加以及世界流行音乐的贡献，使他站到了最伟大的音乐家的行列里。

　　Bob Marley1945年4月6日出生于牙买加，是英国海军白人军官和黑人女仆的儿子，作为混血儿的他从小在贫民窟里长大，在那的贫民窟中度过了他的童年。艰难的生活使他深知怎样做一个平凡人，所以即使他的音乐遍布全球，他也从不以明星自居。

　　1961年，Marley开始了他的演艺生涯，三年后(1964)他有了自己的The Wailers(哭泣者)乐队，他的音乐和热情很快赢得了牙买加音乐界的支持。不久，他的首张单曲唱片《我仍在哭泣》和《孤独是一种痛》连续几个月打入牙买加的排行榜，并对欧洲乐坛产生影响。1972年，Marley推出了专辑《点燃》(Catch A Fire)和《燃烧》(Burnin')，这引起当时评论界和艺术界的一致好评，也使他和他的乐队声誉更隆。1975年，Marley的世界巡演，更让他的音乐遍及全球，数百万的人都在为Marley的成功而欢呼。

　　1981年5月11日，Marley死于癌症，年仅36岁。在短短的20年中，Marley和“哭泣者乐队”出版了多张专辑，象《点燃》和《燃烧》都是十分畅销的唱片，除此之外还包括歌唱他所敬仰的“拉斯特法理教”的音乐。1984年，他最后的专辑《传说》(Legend)发行。

　　Marley的一生是快乐的，他同时也把快乐带给了别人，牙买加人民为了纪念他，于1990年，将他的生日宣布为牙买加的一个节日。
