May 9, 2005 - For the PlayStation Portable, we already have two soccer games on the market and a number of others already on the way (including Winning Eleven, which has the opportunity to take them all on.) But for sim fans, there was still a void left until today, as Sega and Sports Interactive have announced a PSP edition of the acclaimed sports coaching/management sim, Football Manager 2006 (also known as Worldwide Soccer Manager 2006), for release in Europe this Winter.
Based on the soccer simulation game on PC by Sports Interactive (formerly the studio behind the world-renown Championship Manager series), Football Manager 2006 for PlayStation Portable puts you in control as a manager of a teams from one of at least six countries. A number of variables have still not settled on for the PSP edition of the franchise (including the number of countries to be included) -- the franchise will also see an expanded 2006 version on PC and Mac -- but the complex foundation laid out by the home edition will be used to build one of the most complex sports management games available in handheld form.
Speaking of the upcoming handheld edition, Miles Jacobson, Managing Director of Sports Interactive, said of the game, "From the moment that we got our hands on our first PSP we knew that we were finally looking at a portable system that could do our game justice."
This portable edition gives you complete tactical options to allow control the team on and off the field, with realistic player history, staff feedback via coach and physio reports, and full simulation of injuries and transfers. Select active leagues from several countries, including accurate data amassed by SI with up-to-date world rankings and 30 players to a squad. A full interactive transfer system simulates the back-room trades and negociations of the player rosteres, with player loans, signings and more. Simulated media coverage, including transfer rumors, will also bring the beautiful game to life, while a realistic commentary-style match engine and computer manager intelligence system create action on the pitch with faithful realism.
As will most soccer manager games, the game is not expected to be released in North America, but soccer fans in Europe (as well as import fans ready to take advantage of the PSP's open region system for UMD games) will be able to get their hands on the PSP Football Manager 2006 in the winter of 2005.
