Project Move - Love Gone Wrong The Butterfly Theory LP
A breathe of fresh air is always nice, especially when it comes to music. Project Move brings just that with Love Gone Wrong/The Butterfly Theory. The crew that hails from Boston, Massachusetts isn’t exactly what you would hear on today’s big radio stations and it isn’t dressed up in a glamorous facade. No, it doesn’t have big named guests or super famous producers, but it has what Hip-Hop is all about: dope rhymes over fresh beats.
On this album, Project Move bring rhythmically melodic beats with matching flows and some braggadocios flair to spare. The beats are what set the mood on this project and producers Beyonder, Soul Supreme, Headnodic and others can tip their hats as this plays. Upon embarking on the LP, listeners are placed in a jazzy mode which combines Hip-Hop’s boom bap with a mellow jazzy twist reminiscent of the past. It’s a throwback to glory that isn’t contrived and the beats soothe throughout.
This old-school trip remains current due to the rhymes. While they do slow down at times, the emcees incorporate multi-syllable rhyme patterns to keep this fresh. Add to that some clever punches and you’ve got some pretty good lyrical content. Although it would have been great to see some more creative topics on the album, as far as subject matter. Glimpses are shown as the emcees open up about personal lives and interesting views on the title track Love Gone Wrong. More of this would have been greatly appreciated.
That’s due to the fact that the album could have been cut short. Some tracks seem like they could have easily been taken off the LP but that’s a forgivable flaw. After all, the album provides bright spots like That‘s How It Was (Love Music), Butterfly Theory, Make It Fresh, La La and more.
You may not have heard of them. You may not have heard of any of their producers. Who cares? Hip-Hop’s about searching for something new and finding something fresh and a fresh air is provided here. With only a few missteps along the way, the crew manages to make this Summer cooler as they rock right with Love Gone Wrong.
