Juventus: Appeal Verdict Recognises Our Efforts
After the CONI Arbitration tonight reduced Juventus's sentence in the calciopoli affair to a nine-point reduction, putting them up to 12th place in Serie B, the Turin club issued a statement saying:
“Juventus accept the sentence handed out by the CONI Arbitration commission, which recognises at least in part the enormous effort and spirit of sacrifice shown by the club to renew its infrastructure and promote the values of sporting behaviour in favour of the entire football community,”
The Bianconeri had argued that they were the only club implicated in the calciopoli scandal who had taken firm and decisive action to put their house in order by removing the directors accused of putting pressure on referees and the authorities to favour certain teams.
The three members of the famous ‘Triade’ - Luciano Moggi, Roberto Bettega and Antonio Giraudo - were removed from the club.
After tonight's decision, Juve move up to 12th place on 10 points – eight behind leaders Genoa with a game in hand.
The Bianconeri play Frosinone on Satrurday afternoon, then Brescia on Wednesday night before travelling to Napoli the following Monday.
So far this season they have drawn one and won their last six in succession.
