Lippi lined up by Mexico
Reports in Mexico are suggesting that Marcello Lippi is one of the leading candidates to become their new national team Coach.
The Mexican Football Federation has set a deadline of November 16 to name the new boss as they seek a replacement for Ricardo La Volpe, who left following the World Cup quarter-final defeat by Argentina.
“I can confirm Lippi is one of the names on our list,” stated the Federation’s general secretary Decio de Maria.
A national team committee was formed by representatives from Atlante, Guadalajara, Tecos, Pumas and Jaguares.
It seems that the group has eyed four possible successors for La Volpe, including former national star Hugo Sanchez, Jurgen Klinsmann and Americo Gallego, according to newspaper Reforma.
Lippi had just recently confirmed that he intended to return to football early next year, not necessarily with a big club.
However, the former Azzurri Coach has been in Cancun recently with his wife and his agent, fuelling rumours that discussions could be underway with the Mexican Federation.
