Juventus chief executive Jean Claude Blanc has revealed that the club has come up with a new renovation plan for the Stadio Delle Alpi.
The stadium was set to be rebuilt this summer in line with a strategy developed by former CEO Antonio Giraudo.
However, the planned work was halted after Giraudo was forced to resign from the outfit’s board following the Calciopoli probe.
Although the club have stated that they still intend to make amendments to the arena, the Old Lady have come up with a much cheaper alternative than the one previously drawn up.
“The Delle Alpi will remain as it is in architectural lines, but the capacity will fall from the present 67,000 spectators to 50,000 to meet new safety regulations,” the French official stated on Thursday.
“Giraudo's was a project that would cost between £70m and £110m, while we are studying an option which will cost us around £15m.
“Our relegation to Serie B does not allow for certain investments,” he concluded.
Blanc broke the news during a presentation to UEFA who are in Italy in order to assess the country’s bid for the 2012 European Championships.
The new official also added that he expected work on the stadium, originally built for the 1990 World Cup, to take three years and will start in 2007.
Juventus are currently playing their home games at the Stadio Olimpico, which was formerly their old Comunale ground.
