The 1-1 draw at Rimini irritated the Agnelli family, who have urged Juventus’ stars to “wake up” to the new reality of Serie B.
“They’ve got to wake up,” snapped Lapo Elkann, the heir to the FIAT empire, who was in the stands yesterday afternoon for the debut match.
“These players have to put more of an effort in. It’s up to them to understand what Serie B entails. They should’ve won and didn’t play to their potential.”
The Bianconeri were leading through Matteo Paro’s goal and had an extra man following Domenico Cristiano’s dismissal, but 10-man Rimini equalised when Adrian Ricchiuti pounced on a Jean-Alain Boumsong howler.
“Now the team needs to get under a cold shower, grit their teeth and get on with it, because this is a very difficult League. They have to know that every game has to be won.”
Juventus were demoted in the wake of the Calciopoli scandal and start the season with a 17-point penalty.
“The draw was the right result,” added President Giovanni Cobolli Gigli. “I think this game was a lesson to be learned. It proved once again that Serie B is a tough prospect that we must face with the utmost humility.”
